How to Enhance Perimeter Security
In previous articles, we’ve discussed ways to enhance the kerb appeal of your property. However, there may be a reason to restrict what people see and can access from outside the boundary of your home or workplace. In this article, we consider how to enhance perimeter security with external post boxes.
Reasons to Secure the Perimeter of Your Property
The main reasons to limit access to your grounds and property relate to protection and security.
Site Security
When a property is being constructed, renovated or demolished, the grounds are part of the site. To comply with HSE, the Building Safety Regulator, the site may need to be temporarily secured to prevent unauthorised access. This measure helps to protect the site, the safety of workers and the safety of anyone not equipped with Personal Protective Equipment.
Access Control
Equally, permanent measures to control access are required for many industrial estates, commercial buildings, communal apartments, schools and public buildings. This can relate to the nature of the work and equipment stored on-site. Or, to protect people and buildings from risks, especially during hours when the site is unoccupied.
Protect Assets
A secure boundary acts as a deterrent to thieves when expensive vehicles and trade vans are parked on the driveway or in the grounds. Equally, it increases protection for tools and equipment stored in sheds, garden studios and other outbuildings.
Prevent Escape
Rather than keeping people out, one of the reasons for a secure boundary is to enable people and pets to freely use outdoor spaces without running off. From playgroups and schools to farms, care homes and residential properties, this can offer peace of mind.
External Post Boxes and Perimeter Security
Gates, walls, fences and hedges all offer an effective barrier, but how does the postie or delivery driver get in with your mail?
With an external post box fitted through the wall, gate or fence, they don’t need to. Both lockable letterboxes and parcel boxes can be secured to your perimeter to ensure that personal and business correspondence and deliveries can be made without site access.
On the outer side of a built in post box, through the wall parcel drop box or letterbox for gates, there is a discrete flap. As mail is posted, it slides into the locked hold on the inside. You simply unlock to retrieve at a convenient time.
This style of external post box is supplied in two parts. When installed, you slide the outer and inner sections together and secure them in place. Using sealant to finish the job is recommended to prevent water ingress.
A Practical Solution for Limiting Access
When considering access control, you will likely focus on security cameras, monitors and lighting. Yet, don’t forget the external post box! This offers a practical solution for receiving letters and packages without compromising safety, protection and security.
