What Types of Apartment Post Boxes Are There?
As a developer or landlord of a multi-occupancy building, it’s important to provide a facility for Royal Mail and other delivery companies to deliver mail. This could be a reception desk or mail room, however, apartment post boxes are the preferred option. So, when sourcing letterboxes for apartments what should you take into account?
Installation Options for Letterboxes for Apartments
Letterboxes for apartments can be wall mounted, through the wall or free standing. The most suitable option for your building will depend on available space and budget.
Whichever you choose, we advise that you select a European manufactured model. These have to meet quality standards, so are more likely to be robust, long-lasting and secure. It’s the reason that Letterbox Supermarket only sources from specialist manufacturers across the EU.
Our most popular model is the Urban Easy E1, a great value option that is offered in banks of 3,4,5 or 6. We offer the assembly of multiple banks to create the number required in your building.
Internal or External Apartment Post Boxes?
In many multi-occupancy buildings, the post boxes are situated in the entrance area. This makes it easy for residents to collect their mail on their way in or out. With access controls on the door, internal solutions also limit who can access the mailboxes. This reduces junk mail, along with intentional damage to the boxes.
If you have reached the end of the build and space is tight, we recommend seeing if the slimline Tocco Di Italia or Urban Easy E1S models offer a viable solution. If not, the answer is external letterboxes. They also prevent issues relating to how the postman accesses the apartment building. However, before you place an order, be sure that the post boxes are corrosion resistant and suitable for outdoor use.
A third option is a through the wall bank of multiple letterboxes. These have letter flaps on the outside of the building, with the hold and lockable access door inside. The stainless steel City Hall telescopic mailbox is an example. It offers easy delivery and restricted access to the hold. The disadvantage is that these aren’t easy to retrofit. As such, we recommend planning the best position of your apartment mailboxes in the early stages of your new build or renovation project.
Are Apartment Letterboxes Secure?
Your tenants will want assurance that their mail isn’t at risk of being stolen. So, you need lockable post boxes that come with two keys. You can give them one and keep one as a spare.
All European manufacturers have to include anti-theft features. However, if you have concerns about letterbox security in unmanned areas, Cerberus may be of interest. With 3 point locks, a three hinged door and a double baffle plate to restrict access through the letter flap, Cerberus is an enhanced security model.
Whilst we’re talking about security, we suggest differentiating the boxes with the flat number and/or letter or the business name, rather than the name of tenants.
